Philosophical Stationery Poem

He has a great career ahead of him

I sit at my desk
And think that life and my pencil
Are both short and pointless.

Poem Study Notes:

A rare example (for this poet) of how a pretty awful little poem can be enhanced by a half-decent picture.

I'm not sure if I am the kid in the picture. Probably not. But I think his parents have great expectations for him. They've probably heard the story about how if you wait long enough chimpanzees could write Shakespeare, and they're trying the same experiment on their son.

But they don't even have the decency to sharpen his pencils for him. That's what parents are like these days. Too stressed, too busy. They forget the small details that make life tolerable.
